Aquaculture Wholesale Market Report

Week Ending August 23, 1996         

HIGHLIGHTS

This report is for the week ending August 23, 1996. Generally, the reported prices were mixed to unchanged. Catfish fillets, whole hybrid striped bass, Atlantic salmon fillets and whole Atlantic salmon had reported higher prices. Rainbow trout fillets, boned rainbow trout, golden trout fillets and boned coho salmon had reported lower prices. The reported volumes were generally lower to unchanged, except for tilapia fillets, boned golden trout and whole steelhead trout which were higher. Catfish fillets, whole hybrid striped bass, boned rainbow trout, red meat trout fillets, Atlantic salmon fillets, whole Atlantic salmon, boned coho salmon and Arctic char had lower reported volumes.

Shell oysters had no reported change in price or volume. Hard clams had no reported price change with a volume decrease of 5,000 clams. Mussel prices rose by 4 cents and had a reported volume increase of 1150 pounds. Black tiger shrimp increased in price but decreased in volume.

The Northease live market reported no catfish or hybrid striped bass due to high temperatures. Tilapia prices decreased by 1 cent and volumes decreased by 6,000 pounds. Big head carp increased 5 cents per pound and the volume remained unchanged. Oysters increased 2 cents per oyster, but remained unchanged volume. Manila clams prices and volumes remained unchanged.
