Aquaculture Wholesale Market Report

Week Ending July 26, 1996  

HIGHLIGHTS

This report is for the week ending July 26, 1996. Generally, the reported prices were unchanged to slightly lower. Whole hybrid striped bass, tilapia fillets, rainbow trout fillets, boned rainbow trout, Atlantic salmon fillets, whole Atlantic salmon and boned coho salmon reported price decreases. The reported volumes were mixed. Tilapia fillets, boned rainbow trout, whole red meat trout, golden trout fillets, Atlantic salmon, boned coho salmon and dressed white sturgeon reported volume increases. Catfish fillets, whole hybrid striped bass, rainbow trout fillets, boned golden trout and whole turbot reported volume decreases. No dressed red meat trout were reported.

Shell oysters reported no change in price or volume. Hard clams reported a decrease of 1 cent per clam and a volume increase of 17,000 clams. Mussels reported price decrease of 1 cent per pound and 1,000 pounds less in volume. Black tiger shrimp reported a price increase of 11 cents per pound and a volume decrease of 4,810 pounds.

The Northeast Live Markets reported a 5 cent per pound price increase and a 6,000 pound volume increase for catfish. An 1 cent per pound price increase and a 6,000 pound volume increase was reported for tilapia. NOTE: There was an import of 6,000 pounds of live tilapia from Mexico. Big head carp had a reported price increase of 5 cents per pound and a volume increase of 5,000 pounds. Oyster prices decrease 2 cents per oysters, but the volume was unchanged. No price or volume change was reported for Manila clams.
