Aquaculture Wholesale Market Report
HIGHLIGHTS
Note: We are very happy to report the addition of a new
wholesale market in the New York-Massachusetts area as a participant.
This report is for the week ending May 24, 1996. Generally,
the reported wholesale finfish prices were higher, except whole hybrid striped bass,
rainbow trout fillets, boned rainbow trout and whole turbot were lower. Whole tilapia,
dressed rainbow trout, redmeat trout fillets boned redmeat trout, dressed red meat trout,
whole red meat trout, dressed white sturgeon, and whole steelhead trout reported no price
change. Price increases were reported for catfish fillets, cajun-lemon pepper catfish
fillets, tilapia fillets, golden trout fillets, Atlantic salmon fillets, whole Atlantic
salmon, boned coho salmon and whole Arctic char. Volume comparisons are invalid with
inclusion of data from the NEW participants.
Shell oysters were unchanged in price and volume. Hard
clams were unchanged in price, but were 23, 400 clams higher in volume. Mussels increased
12 cents per pound but decreased 875 pounds in volume. Black tiger shrimp prices and
volumes were not comparable due to a large volume of small (51-60 ct.) shrimp reported.
The live market reported a price decrease of 2 cents per
pound for catfish and a volume decrease of 15,600 pounds. No hybrid striped-bass were
reported. Tilapia prices were unchanged but the volume decreased by 7,700 pounds. Big head
carp prices increased by 20 cents per pound and decreased by 10,000 pounds in volume. No
price or volume change was reported for oysters or Manila clams.
