Aquaculture Wholesale Market Report

Week Ending February  7, 1997                

HIGHLIGHTS

This report is for the week ending February 7, 1997. In general, the reported finfish prices were lower to unchanged. Cajun-lemon pepper catfish fillets, whole tilapia and whole Arctic char had higher prices. Lower prices were reported for catfish fillets, rainbow trout fillets, boned rainbow trout fillets, Atlantic salmon fillets, whole Atlantic salmon and boned coho salmon. The reported volumes were generally higher. Catfish fillets, rainbow trout fillets, boned rainbow trout, Atlantic salmon fillets, whole Atlantic salmon, boned coho salmon and whole steelhead trout had higher reported volumes. No eels were reported.

Shell oysters were unchanged in price and volume. Hard clams were 1 cent higher per clam and 400 clams less in volume. Mussels were 1 cent per pound higher in price but 3,000 pounds lower in volume. Black tiger shrimp were 19 cents per pound higher in price and 600 pounds lower volume.

The Northeast Live Market reported no change in catfish price but an increase of 5,000 pounds in volume. Tilapia increased 20 cents per pound but remained unchanged in volume. Big head carp were unchanged in price but increased 10,000 pounds in volume. Flooding in the western U.S. and the cold temperatures reduced shellfish and some finfish supplies.
