Aquaculture Wholesale Market Report

Week Ending January 10, 1997           

HIGHLIGHTS

This report is for the week ending January 10, 1997. In general, the reported finfish prices were lower to unchanged. Boned rainbow trout, Atlantic salmon fillets, whole Atlantic salmon, and boned coho salmon had higher prices than November, 1996, price. Lower prices were reported for cajun-lemon pepper catfish fillets, whole hybrid striped bass, tilapia fillets, whole tilapia and rainbow trout fillets. The reported volumes were generally higher. Catfish fillets, dressed catfish, rainbow trout fillets, and boned coho salmon had higher prices than November, 1996 prices. Catfish fillets, dressed catfish, rainbow trout fillets, boned coho salmon and whole Arctic char volumes were lower. No golden trout or red meat trout were reported. Eels appeared after a long absence.

Shell oysters were unchanged in price and volume. Hard clam prices increased 1 cent per clam and 4,200 clams in volume. Mussels increased 14 cents per pound and 2,400 pounds in volume. Black tiger shrimp decreased 38 cents per pound and increased 3,084 pounds in volume.

The Northeast Live Market reported a 5 cent per pound increase for catfish, tilapia and big-head carp. Tilapia volumes decreased 5,000 pounds while catfish and big-head cart remain unchanged. West Coast oysters and Manila clams were absent due to the Washington State flooding.
