OSU Extension Offers Short Course on Small
Farm
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State University Extension
is offering a 9-week short course on the ins and outs of starting and managing a
small farm, from business planning to production options, to marketing products.
The Small Farm College is being offered one night a week at three separate Ohio
locations beginning this month. One site will be held in Chillicothe at the Ross
County Extension office from Jan. 16-March 13. The second location will be held
in Waynesville at the Der Dutchman restaurant from Jan. 18-March 15. The third
site will be held in McConnelsville at Morgan Local High School from Jan.
19-March 16. Classes will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A field day is scheduled
for March 11, highlighting examples of successful small farms throughout Ohio.
The cost of the course is $150 per person and $50 for each additional family
member. Each participant will received a Small Farm College notebook of
coursework materials.
Topics to be covered during the Small Farm College include: goal setting,
resource inventory, business planning, identifying sources for financial
assistance, natural resource management, legal issues, record keeping, crop and
animal production options and marketing alternatives.
