AVMA Launches Online Aquatic Database

The American Veterinary Medical Assn. has launched what it says is the first free online database of aquatic animal veterinarians and diagnostic laboratories.

It is designed to assist veterinarians, pet owners and aquatic industries, among others, in finding specialists in this field, said David Scarfe, DVM, assistant director of the AVMA Scientific Activities Division.

The Aquavets.com database covers aquatic veterinarians and diagnostic laboratories involved with the health, welfare and medicine of aquatic animals, including commercial aquaculture production, pet and companion aquatic animals, wild and restoration fisheries, wholesale and retail trade, live animal or seafood movement, and seafood safety.

To access the database go to: http://www.Aquavets.com/

This resource may also be of assistance for catfish producers and extension educators who may need a licensed veterinarian after proper disease diagnosis to use the new antibiotic drug, Aquaflor (registered trademark), which is only available from a feed mill with Veterinary Feed Directive issued by a veterinarian.
