New Animal Drug Approvals for Aquaculture in the U.S.

Dr. Thomas Bell has left the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine (FDACVM) for a position with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  To minimize the potential impact of Dr. Bell's departure on the aquaculture industry, FDACVM moved swiftly to name Dr. Joan Gotthardt, a senior reviewer well-versed in the drug approval process, as leader of the aquaculture group in the Division of Therapeutic Drugs for Food Animals.  In addition to a D.V.M. degree, Dr. Gotthardt's academic background includes graduate level coursework in environmental physiology and aquaculture, and undergraduate coursework in fish and wildlife management.  Dr. Gotthardt can be reached at 301-827-7571 or by e-mail at jgotthar@bangate.fda.gov.
