The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is an agency of the Department of Commerce that was formed in 1970. NOAA's mission includes two equally important components:
  1. Promoting global environmental stewardship in order to conserve and wisely manage the Nation's marine, and coastal resources.
  2. Describing, monitoring, and predicting changes in the Earth's environment in order to ensure and enhance sustainable economic opportunities.

As a major component of the Department of Commerce, NOAA performs its mission in ways that support every facet of the Nation's economy and enhance the quality of life for the American people.
